The cost of electricty is so high because of the Zia ul Haq and Dr Mahbab ul Haq did to Pakistan.
Tax collection in Pakistan has always been one of the weakest functions of the government, there is no tax on the vast incomes drived from agriculture, and the big capitalists andindustrialists are given massive concessions in the hope that they invest more and create more jobs.
The result is that indirect taxes and continuously increasing exorbitant levies are charged upon various types of products and services. The sufferers are the middle and lower income groups.
Capitalists/industrialists also evade what little taxes they have to pay.
Electricity tarrif is irrational in Pakistan. Everywhere in the world, the more you buy something, the lower is the rate you pay. In Pakistan the more you consume electricity the higher is the base rate you pay.
This should end.
Everyone should be raising a voice against this, because consumption of electricity is going to increase for everyone, no matter how slow the rate of modernization.
