Sugarcane - a renewable source of energy
Pakistan is one of the world's major producers of sugarcane.
At the present, we are not fully benefiting from our ability to produce quality sugarcane.
We need to bring more area under sugarcane cultivation, establish larger mills (25,000+ TCD capacity) crush the cane and take the juice directly to distilleries attached to these mills, ferment the juice to produce ETHANOL, and blend it with petrol to improve our energy efficiency.
This will help reduce the already bloated oil imports bill, as well as contribute to less dependence on fireign sources for our energy requirements.
The above is also a national strategic objective which should be given due weight.

Brazil has been doing this. It is a very practical suggestion.

It will also help progress the local steel fabrication industry. Alcohol requires specialuzed tamk containers for transport. Large scale manufacture of alcohol will stimulate fabrication of these specialized tank containers.

This will also help rationalize Pakistan's sugar industry and make it far more lucrative and economically viable.

But isn't the manufacture of alcohol prohibited by Shariah?

Alcohol as an intoxicant is prohibited.
Measures will be needed to ensure people do not consume themselves what is intended for combustion in their car engines.

From what I have learned since my last post on this topic, sugar-cane is a veritable store-house of renewable energy.
It would make much economic sense to bring more land under sugar-cane cultivation and reduce dependent on energy imports.
This also fits in nicely with -defence-strategic planning.
