Electricity Outages become murderous in Lahore
On Sundays and holidays, everywhere in the world, the demand load on utility electricty supply systems decreases dramatically, due to the majority of commercial establishments, offices, factories, schools, etc., being closed.
Despite the above, yesterday Sunday 11 April 2010, the city of Lahore, capital of Punjab, Pakistan's largest province and the most populous city in the country after Karachi, suffered load-shedding every alternate hour.
That is 12 hours of power outage in a 24 hour period.
LESCO also resorts to lengthening the outage durations in certain localities, sometimes up to four hours, without announcing that duration will be increased.
It must also be noted that load shedding of more than one hour at a stretch is in contravention of clear government directives.
