K. E. S. C. And Exports From Karachi
There are many areas in Karachi where there are multiple power outages in any 24 hour period APART FROM THE ONE HOUR LOADSHEDDING THREE TIMES in 24 hours.
In many of these areas there are small and medium sized factories which mostly export there goods. During power outages these factories either have to switch on generators or discontinue work until power is restored.
Whenever such a discontinuation of electricity supply from K. E. S. C. occurs there is also and always a loss of stock in process.
This adds to the cost of production of these manufacturers making there goods uncompetitive.
Primarily K. E. S. C. itself is responsible for the situation which has resulted in the need for loadshedding.
The K. E. S. C. publicly committed via a press release that it will bring an additional 450 MW online by end 2009. It has failed to do this and has so far not informed its customers the reasons for its failures.

They have literally killed the economic activity of all those middle and lower class youngsters who were working for foreign customers from home via the internet and computers. These young people, both girls and boys, worked as medical transcribers, data collaters, writers etc.
Power outages hit them in two ways. They have to invest in UPS or generators to keep their systems up, meaning unnecessary expense due to KESC's incompetence.
The killing thing is that their internet connectivity goes kaput when there is a power failure. WorldCall and Mobilink Infinity both go down when there is a power outage in any area, so the customer cannot log on to the Internet until power is restored.
